Arthur’s a Gift at 11/1 in the Midlands National

I usually take a break after Cheltenham, but I’m very keen on Arthur’s Gift for the Midlands National – 3.35 Uttoxeter.

I liked him as a hurdler and he’s already looking like he’ll be better over fences. He really impressed me at Carlisle last time. Jumping and travelling well before powering away like a dour stayer. He has 9 furlongs farther to run than at Carlisle, but I’m fairly confident from his racing style that he won’t have a problem with it.

His trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies is in good form and he’s a master with staying chasers. He had this horse entered in a couple of races at the festival and it says a lot that he resisted those to send him here for what I think is much the easiest option.

Hills offer 11/1 EW first 7 and barring accidents, I cannot see Arthur’s Gift not returning place money at the very least. I’ve backed him on these terms with Hills and elsewhere, win only, at 12/1.

Good luck

Joe

I’m still basking in Beware the Bear’s Ultima win, which I watched again this evening. A super win, though he cut it a little fine at the finish. Thank you.
