Looking at the Celebration Chase at Sandown (3pm Saturday) I see an improver in Vosne Romanee. He will be very well suited by the ground (as it is) and I’d have him no bigger than a 12/1 chance. Even though Altior is 1/5. Yet Betfair and Paddy Power offer him at 66/1.
I think Vosne Romanee’s chance of finishing 2nd and repaying EW bets with a place price of over 16/1 (15/2 inc your lost win stake) is pretty good. He has to overcome Sceau Royal for the place part, but that one has run the odd poor race and had a tough race at the Festival. Also, King insists that Sceau Royal needs fastish ground to be at his best, but the form book says different – his top two Racing Post Ratings have come on easy ground and among his top 7 ratings, good ground features just once (the rest on softer). Vosne Romanee’s 7 top ratings have come on good ground (6 of them) on good to firm. He’s well worth a small EW bet and perhaps an EW double with one in the Bet365 Gold Cup. I’ll post my selections for that race tomorrow, but it is highly likely to be The Young Master.
But one I fancy to run into a place is Rolling Dylan (he doesn’t win often, but this trip is sure to suit him well) and at 14/1, (and assuming the win money will be lost on Vosne Romanee anyway) he’s worth including in a small EW double with the 66/1 chance. Bear in mind that the EW terms in VR’s race mean your horse must finish second at worst to land the place money.
Vosne Romanee EW 66/1
Rolling Dylan EW 14/1
More tomorrow.
Good luck
