Lisnagar Oscar Fine Value

Lisnagar Oscar was. still travelling very sweetly in the race he’d been primed for this season – the Stayers’ Hurdle – when he fell at the 7th. He looks much too big a price today in the 3.35 at 10/1 to 5 places with Skybet and I strongly recommend an EW bet at those odds.

I’d backed Fagan for the Grand National at 370 on Betfair. Sadly he was ballotted out at a price of around 120. I believe he could pick up today’s 4.15 in consolation. Gordon Elliott had him as a young horse and thought he could win something big. I believe he was ante post fav at one point for the NH Chase at Cheltenham. Alex Hales has him now and looks to have done a good job rejuvenating him, given the way he sauntered home at Newbury last time. He is 12/1 EW to 5 places with Skybet.

I think it’s worth backing the above in an EW double too. Skybet’s provision of extra places in these races is a huge bonus for value hunters, especially if you are happy to bet EW perms.

I have taken the two above in various perms with 3 in the 1.45: Tea Clipper, Stoney Mountain and Hometown Boy. I’ve done the same again but added Burrows Saint, Takingrisks and Minellacelebration, each time decreasing the stakes in the perm.

I did these at the festival too. One 25p place only fourfold paid £39.60. You can have fun with these for small stakes and the chance to land a decent payout.

Good luck

  1. Hi Joe

I took your advice on Fagan, what a shame he was balloted out.. he sure has form in the book when you dig in to the detail..

I’ve done a small stakes multiple across the card today, leaving Shishkin to one side.

Burbank and Guard Your Dreams bring interesting form from the Coral Cup to the first 2 races today. I’ve also gone to the stayers but taken Vinndication (again!!). Then Fagan, Lord du Mesnil in the national and then I cannot resist Twister’s 4 year old in the bumper. He won the same race with The New One as a 4 year old and I like the idea of a little bit of history repeating itself!!

My 25p e/w heinz pays an awful lot and like you say, even a few places will result in profit!!

    Take care and have fun
