Talking Horses Friday July 9th 2021

More winners from the comments section yesterday, the consistent Dirty Northerner and Rob J landing their naps again, with DN adding 9/1 chance Blackrod as a positive mention.

The blog followed up Wednesday’s winner by napping Baaeed at 9/5 (he looks a proper horse).

The blog’s nap today is Primo Bacio in the 3.35 at 6/1. There’s strong appeal value wise in coupling that one with Dubai Honour in the 1.50 (at SP) on Hills betting as they offer 4 and 5 places respectively. I recommend an EW double there.

Please leave your own naps/ tips in the comments section along with the race time (try to avoid “in the last/first” – times make it much easier for me to check in the evening). Thank you.

Good luck.

Joe

  1. Again I am with Joe on Premio Bacio, with Jilly Cooper and Cormier, York 3.05 and 2.15 respectively. However, the Nap is Prince Alex at HQ at 3.00 with Desert Dreamer at 2.25 at HQ. In fact they could be both naps and are in a EW double.

    1. Cookie has napped the First Kiss, but he he is far too much of a gentleman to couple this with Jilly Cooper.

      1. Aye Joe. I do like the Dreamer, a consistent horse and paid ok at 12s (early bird price).. As for Baccio, traffic comes your way if you look for it or are unlucky. The horse would not have troubled the winner, but remains in the Tracker.

  2. Oops that’ll be me who keeps putting first or last race…. Sorry about that,
I’ll try to remember in the future (or nap races from the middle of the meet!!!)

    1. You really think that they could spread the good cards out a little better. There are extremely poor days and then we are spoilt for choice.

  3. I might take on Joe and dnb’s nap with snow lantern, earlier in the meet I like James Doyle’s two runs Dubai honour 13:50 (was close to being my nap) and global storm 15:00. Another who came close to being the nap was ffion 16:45 at Ascot, but at decent odds my nap is over at york, war leader 15:50.

    1. I was an earlier follower of Snow Lantern with one or two AP bets that got burned. Their respective runs at York, in the Michael Seely, is the convincer for me. However, it’s a race to savour and not to speculate in too much. Good luck with the grey!

      1. Same here, I think snow lantern was mentioned in one of Dilton’s emails ages ago, so I’ve kept a close eye on since. Just think he might have a race in him here. I’ve noticed my nap is starting to slide out in the betting…… here’s hoping though!

Declaring what type of plates a horse has been shod with would cause certain trainers a few headaches.

  5. I’ve been trying to get a selection for the Falmouth but I’ve decided it’s one to watch. Snow lantern and Mother Earth will like the ground but the older horses in the race could cause an upset. Good luck to those who have whitled it down to a selection.

Dark shift 5/2 in the 4.00 at ascot Nap. Ran in a hot race at York and draw/ground was against.
Better chance today on softer going at a track he has won at.

DN I looked at Prince Alex and was going to have a bet but fear he wasn’t the ground softer. I’m sure he is better than his mark though.
Both yourself and Joes EW doubles are very tempting!

    1. Fair comment Steelman. It’s a hot racing day for small stakes. I’m still kicking myself with Baaeed yesterday. I backed the horse, but now consider it was the last opportunity to BLM* with it.

  6. Yesterday, I placed win singles and EW double on 3.0 Hochfeld (drifting now thought) and 3.35 Snow Lantern.
Just added same bet on 1.50 King Frankel and 3.35 Primo Bacio.
Have family visiting, so probably not watching Racing, but do hope to see the Falmouth! Good Luck.

    1. On a day that I’ve backed the First Kiss, the Wolf’s Kiss throws up an interesting one that I missed last night. Many thanks.

  8. Way too much good racing today. A fair number of my previous winning bets are racing today and of those Prince Alex (Newmarket 15:00) and Alcohol Free (Newmarket 15:35) make the most appeal. However, my nap for the day is Flotus in the 14:25 at Newmarket. Current price of 15/2 makes her worth backing e.w.

  9. I’m giving Snow Lantern a final chance to show how good I think she might. Will be recompense for her mother being cheated out this race those many years ago.

  10. Afternoon

Dilton did indeed mention Snow Lantern, yonks ago now as an Oaks / Coronation filly. I thought she was given a shocker by Levey last time at Ascot so hopefully today will be a less complicated approach to winning the race.

Snow Lantern 3.35 my nap, although may need to borrow ropes and crampons if she doesn’t go in today!!

    1. Well done Simon. I am pleased for Richard Hannon, the horse and connections. I couldn’t back the horse today, due to previous losses.
This was a very good race which requires many reviews.

      1. Much as it pains me deeply to admit it, this one is down to Dilton, just a wretched shame it wasn’t Epsom a few weeks ago as that would have been very rewarding indeed!! I look forward to the smile from the ladies in our local cancer research shop tomorrow morning!!

  11. Is it me or has the standard of tipping gone up since the guardian TH days?? If we keep this up, we can forget a French horse, we’ll just go all in and buy a galelio colt and smash Ascot! Seriously, well done folks, long may it continue!

  12. On the subject of a potential syndicate, I am in the process of reserving the name TALKING HORSES with Weatherby’s. They have confirmed that the name can be reserved for 90 days, without a payment, following that I have to pay our pass up on the name.

    1. DN,

If you reserve the name I’m sure those who are interested can chip in whatever is necessary to cover the cost. That way the ball starts rolling 🙂

      1. Thanks Jamie. We have 90 days to sort this. Joe, would it be possible for you to set up a separate page for those of us interested in considering a syndicate? We can then debate NH or Flat; UK or France; trainers etc. Obviously all are welcome from these pages, but it would be good to define interest and not bore those who are not interested.

  13. Well done folks today. Jumped on a few of your tips to a small stake. Couldn’t resist a few quid on Snow lantern after so many on here giving it another shot.
Well done Joe and DN on Dubai honour and Cormier.
They made me back my loss on my own Nap.

Keep it up guys some really good selections coming from this forum !
