Talking Horses Tuesday July 27 2021 Goodwood Day 1

Hitlist: Mickle has scored two days in a row with naps (late result for Sunday’s) with Rising Star 13/8 and yesterday Yanifer at 15/8 – well done, Mickle. Also yesterday David napped 5/4 winner Ravenscraig Castle, and Bacciodilupo is back in form with a mention for 6/1 winner Merroir. Fine work, folks – thank you.

Goodwood’s excellent meeting starts today and I daresay that’s where we will see the most tips. The blog’s nap is Creative Force in the 3.00 at 3/1.

As ever, leave your tips and your nap in the comments section and mark your winners in the July Winners thread.

Good luck

Joe

  1. SPACE BLUES 11/4 is the Nap at Goodwood 3.00. Backed with MAZE RUNNER 9/2 Galway 8.15 and KNIGHT DESTROYER 15/8 in the first at Worcester. The AMHRAN NA BHFIANN at 40/1 EW in the 3.35 at Goodwood.

  2. Backing any of the Ballydoyle Horses down to 5 places on bet 365 in the 15.35 at Goodwood might return the overall stake if one of them is placed. They are good odds to me if one finishes 5th.
This distance is more favourable to them than the Ascot Gold Cup.
Amhran Na Bfhiann will lead and try to nick the Race but if he fades away he might be able to not get totally devoured.
I am doing most of the Ballydoyle Crew at Galway in e.w. doubles.
I am mixing it up with Coventry in the last under P. Nolan who is attracting money.
Oh I forgot he is ex-Ballydoyle and named by Sue in the expectation he would win the Coventry stakes at RA.
My nap is in the 2 yo Fillies Maiden in the at 17.10 at Galway in the shape of Twinkle who I believe Sue named after the toy horse owned by Peppa Pig.
This is a serious maiden Race; not all Classic Winners win their maidens at The Curragh and two have done this Galway route in the last 7 years.
Twinkle is a FS to Anthony Van Dyck. She didn’t lose by much on her debut. You can get 5/2.
The great Slowhandray won big with a winner of this Race in an AP bet on the subsequent 1000 Guineas with Hermosa.
Unfortunately he based it on her times but Galileos can run without throttle and she was keen and was a spent force pretty quickly and he probably repaid.

  3. Despite saying the other day that Beverley racecourse is an unlucky track for me, I’m heading down there this afternoon (so any tips would be gladly appreciated!!). With this in mind the nap is sed maarib 13:00. Over at Goodwood, some places are saying the going is soft, others heavy?? Anyone know what the rains been like there? Either way at 14s desert safari might be a good ew bet with some bookie’s paying first 6. Good luck all.

    1. This is what’s been posted by the COC.

“162mm rain from 16th June to 12th July 7.2mm rain early Saturday morning. Then cleared to a warm sunny afternoon. 33.1mm rain on Sunday 16.1mm rain in a thunderstorm early hours of Tuesday F’cast: Showers at times for today. The rest of the week looks drier but the risk of isolated showers remains (detail depends on which forecast look at). Current weather details from our weather station available here; https://bit.ly/2E6dYhB

Watering:Watering finished mid afternoon Thursday. ”

If you can make sense of why watering was still being done on Thursday when the forecast was for heavy rain then you are a better man than me Gungadin.

      1. Local weather based on the back garden test is to try and find something with form in paddy fields, serious rain overnight with potentially more to come. Humid and very little breeze.

  4. Nothing like a nap here at Goodwood!
150 Ouzo – guessing he can stay 10f in heavy conditions..
300 Prince Eiji – Varian always had hopes for him, so today’s combo of 7f and heavy may be ideal
335 I think Serpentine is bred to be suited by the mud so am on EW at 20/1
410 ‘Value’ for me is represented by Sunday Sovereign and SdS as another EW punt
550 I think the fav. is too short, so a small win on Mountain Brave is my option

Form at 7F and on soft.

      4.10 Ishvara 20-1
New Headgear on and drawn well. Cowel in form and this one ran a good race recently behind Arecibo

  6. Nap is Ava Go Joe at 2/1 in Beverley 2.40. Goodwood TV darts are Majestic Dawn, Berkshire Shadow, Creative Force, Stradivarius, Blue De Vega (eye was taken to Murphy’s jockey booking last night)

  7. Let’s get the nap out of the way early at Goodwood. The fabulously named Johnny Drama has made me smile as I think back to my younger days, however the nap goes to Lucander in the first. I think Beckett could have the 1-2 here to emulate Johnston last year, but napping a straight forecast in a race like this is a bit OTT even for me!!

  8. I was once told by a down on his luck individual, look for the low weighted horses with big hooves in handicaps on heavy going. I believe he was buried in a paupers grave.

Galway 5.45 Rocket Science is todays nap.

  9. Tipping winners today looks very difficult. There are many non runners at Goodwood and heavy going too. Galway looks ultra competitive. I have not got a clue who to nap. But here goes, Take My Hand 7.45 Galway at 8/1 or so is the NAP.
The big handicap (6.15) is a puzzle, Fjord should run well but very short at 4/1. HdeB’s Masala 8/1 merits a mention though 3 year olds do not have a good record in recent years. Like I said, a puzzle. Good luck with your bets.

  10. Nayef Road 33-1 EW for me, 3.35, but hardly had a bet today, as Dilton mentioned, a bit of a puzzle why they were watering Thursday with the forecast. Hopefully it’ll dry out a bit during the week – I find Goodwood tricky enough anyway!

  11. I’m with Luke. Nayef Road ran his best Racing Post Rating in this race last year when 2nd. His only other Goodwood run was a victory at this meeting. He handles the ground and will stay. Big price and worth an EW bet.
