Talking Horses Tuesday August 3rd 2021

Never were so many dismayed by a winning nap from the blog today. I didn’t have much on, given my lousy form, and would much sooner have seen it down the field to help a few contributors land some beefy bets on Bosh, especially Dirty Northerner who took 10/1 and napped it EW.

Also in the Hitlist yet again is The Steelman whose EW nap Musahaba was 2nd at 7/1.

I’m still concentrating on EW perms on Skybet’s extra places races. Here’s what I’ll be betting today:

2.10 Hard Solution: The Grey Bay: Quercus

3.20 Cuppacoco: Newgate Angel: Star Citizen

7.20 Alaskan Lady: Twilley

18EW trebles + win bets on Quercus and Alaskan Lady, who is also the nap for today.

Naps ‘n’ Tips in the comments please. All welcome, including those new to the site. No prizes, but good fun. Remember to update the August Winners Thread if you have a winner.

Good luck

Joe

  1. That is now 27 Ballydoyle Horses in a row that have not had their nose in front at the winning line.
I respect anyone who has made the sound decision to lay Ballydoyle in July.
    Actually I don’t respect them.
I worked in Roscommon Hospital for 6 months.
I think It has a sort of view of the Racecourse but there is nothing memorable about Roscommon.
When I was disaffected in my Job and missing serious Urban Life a Nurse pointed out to me “Roscommon has a Cinema and a Swimming Pool. What more do you want?”
I had no reply then and have no reply now.
I think I backed Cerebrus before and he will be my nap in the 18.40 at Roscommon trained by JOB.

    1. I passed through Roscommon about 15-20 years ago and share your opinion. To quote Sam, it’s a place where “Nothing happens, twice.”

What do you think is going on at Ballydoyle? Is there a bug there? Or have they laid off high level work with a view to the Autumn campaign?
I realise they have some relatively unimpressive younger horses and some of the mid-career ones are over-hyped. But if the MOTHER doesn’t wind today or run well, then somethings up.

  2. The Tracker is solely stacked with horses at Deauville. So the Nap is MOTHER EARTH in the 2.00 there at 2.94/1 (Hills enhanced odds). This is backed win only, despite the observances of EGS. The next best is TOIMY SON in the 12.08 at Deauville, win bet at 5/1 and in a double with the MOTHER.
It was difficult to stop following SAM MAXIMUS in the first at Deauville, but I believe TOIMY SON could be some horse.
Then there’s a saver should the curse on Ballydoyle continue. COUERSAMBA at 8’s, who has already beaten the MOTHER.

    1. DNB,
I think the Prix Rothschild may qualify as the weakest G1 in Europe and it should be an open goal based on her Pouliches run in particular.
She has had a hard campaign and runs hard
LukeH pointed out before the 1,000 Guineas that Zoffannies have a poor G1 record at the age of 3.
I would take her on but can’t see anything else.
I think it is embarrassing that only a few stables from UK think about winning soft G1s like this that stand good in the Breeding Sheds.

      1. I concur. The French are a poor bunch in this race and I would have thought someone like Gosden or even Braveheart could have entered something. Hard miles on the clock could see her beaten. Small bet.

  3. I took 8/1 last night Ivadream in the 5.15 at Ffos Las.
Deauville 2.00. Speak of the devil has an ew chance. She was very unlucky in last seasons French 1000.
    Those are my two today.

    1. A tad unlucky again I feel. Beaten a head + a short head, after having to switch 3 horses wide to launch a challenge. Small margins etc. Ah well. 40/1 place always welcome. Well done to those on the winner !

  7. Today’s NAP is Santana Plessis 9/1, 5.40 Roscommon (proud to say I’ve never been there!).

    2 for a mention.,,Crocus 3.00 FL 8/1 and Royal Aide 5/1 Roscommon (“ so good, nothing happened twice”)….

As for Lissen/the lads/BD, I think the American Experiment has been an utter disaster. They need to find a replacement for Galileo…but who are where???

  8. Tracker not much help today so i’ll go EW on an old friend LOMU 4.18 at Chelmsford. Only 7 but seems to have been around forever!

Might be due a turn on a tricky day.

  9. My NAP today is Christmas Jumper in the third race at Roscommon. He ran into lots of trouble last time out and still got up on the line to dead heat. The step up in trip should bring out more improvement and see him go close.

  10. A visit to Ffos Las is generally a day out with mediocre racing so today is no different, although race 2 is a interesting novice event.
Quite surprised it is good to firm as it is often like a bog there but Turftrax are normally reliable so here goes, the natives like to keep the money this side of the seven bridge so no surprise local trainers do well here,
Dai Burchells Good Impression ticks the boxes but is very short in the first , he has had a few winners lately so this may well be another, market speaks favourably,…Right Action of David Evans has been well supported is certainly well handicapped and looks a bet, cheeky Dai has been exploiting French sprint races this year with some success and also had a Royal Ascot winner with Rohaan, underestimate him at your peril with young sprinters, this ones a bit older and had seemed to have lost his way a little but money and a decent jockey booking catches the eye so a bet for me today.

  11. Having a dozen or so Stag Horns in my garden I was going to nap Stag Horn, but the in-form The Steelman has beaten me to it. I’m going down the standard of racing to Catterick Bridge in the 15:55 and selecting AMOURIE as my nap.

    1. I think it’s ok for you to nap something that’s already been taken. After all, if you were on course you would back your nap irrespective of others.

      Is that ok Joe?

    3. Jonathan,
Are Stag Horns in a garden not an Insurance risk.
Suppose your Neighbour’s children fall on them?
I had thought of buying a set of Antlers and placing it in the Hall to hang my coat upon but not covering my lawn with a dozen of them.

  12. Ah, one of those Tuesdays where discipline will be required to prevent the Bank being decimated!! Can’t ever remember Oisin riding for my favourite trainer Mr Burchell but as Paul mentions above, it is a hellish short price. So in search of better value how about Master Grey in the 4.10.

  13. My nap is Mystery Angel which has a cracking chance today in the 2.35 at Deauville. Hopefully there will be enough pace in the race to allow her to get her head over the line first.
