Talking Horses Friday August 6th 2021

Two made yesterday’s Hitlist (assuming Winners thread is complete?) – David and Mickle, each with a 5/6 nap: well done.

The blog’s nap was unsighted and I got one race badly wrong for the EW perms, especially with 25/1 and 28/1 placed horses in the other two. Still, I believe there is mileage in this approach, though it might need modification.

I think Greta Bridge is overpriced in the 1.00 and will go nap at the 22/1 offered by Paddy Power (5 places). Skybet go 18/1 to 5 places Greta Bridge and 50/1 another horse I believe will outrun her odds – Celerity in the 5.52 (EW 4 places) if you fancy joining me in an EW double.

Also in my EW perms will be Ourmaninhavana in the 5.10 at 16/1 and Minhaaj in the 3.00 at 16/1, with Breezyandbright and Persaria as backup in the same two races.

As ever, please leave your naps/tips by making a comment below. All welcome, especially newcomers; just enter a name when asked so we know who is who. No prizes, but it’s good fun here among some seasoned punters, most of whom spent years commenting at the Guardian on the original Talking Horses forum, which has now been heavily cut back.

If you tip a winner, please use the Winners thread to highlight your result and we’ll put you on the Hitlist next day. There is a Winners thread for each month.

We also have a Lounge thread for general chat, though as a forum we are a bit limited to what WordPress, our host here, provides as far as structure goes.

Thanks for looking in. Good luck with your bets today, but please bear in mind that this is meant to be ‘fun’. There are many wise heads posting tips here and we haven’t yet gone a day without somebody tipping a winner. But never bet more than you can afford to lose. Small stakes can still produce wide smiles.

All the best

  1. its okay to watch lots of 5 / 6 furlong sprints that make up the bulk of todays cards but a tricky betting medium.

I’ll go for Amelie R in the Muss 4.55 as Nap and give a shout out to Turnpike Trip at Wexford in the 18.15

  2. Congratulations to those with winners so far in August! Not easy tipping winners at present, or so it seems to me!

Today’s NAP is Call Me Freddie 5.45 Wexford, 3/1 as I type.

  3. I am sure Jonathan is posting simultaneously but in the 18.30 at Tipperary I am taking Shark Bay who was beaten by a nose last time out to John The Baptist to show more bite and win by a head this time.
I have not napped a winner in August and my yellow belly leads me to the 18.30 at Tipperary where Arctician is currently 4/11.
Who knows? It may drift to odds against and I will appear astute

      1. That was a David comment who found an astute 5/6 yesterday. There’s a bit of a hair trigger on the website as opposed to phone access in terms of posting. Hence the anonymous posts that come through here and there

    1. EGS, I’m still coming to terms with Our Man In Havana running at Brighton (Rock). But, in your efforts to assist the Irish interweb to beat the Floridian version that you, like your compatriot Natalya Coyle in the Modern Pentathlon riding Constantin the Great, must receive a number of faults on Shark Bay & John The Baptist for refusing to ride in their published 18:00 race and going instead to the 18:30 race.

I trust you’ll be taking Mrs. EGS here when the staghorns are back in stock

My nap is DIXIE BLUEBELL in the 19:00 at Tipperary.

      1. I see Our Man In Havana has halved in price since last night. He goes very well at Chepstow and I am told by twitter that Brighton is quite similar to the Welsh track. It’s his first run here and he’s back at his best trip. I’ve backed him EW to 4 places at 16s.

  4. I have backed PAGAN Brighton 3.00; LORD RIDDIFORD Musselburgh 3.45; with the nap TRIPLE TIME Haydock 6.22.
I also have the admirable DEEP SNOW, the outsider of three who is again top weight, at 3s in the 7.08 at Headquarters.

The filly passed the vet with flying colours and shes 100% sound in heart wind and conformation.

The vet likes her and said shes a very good mover.

We go to see her on Monday.

I will post this on the syndicate thread and please comment there.

  6. Great news on the young filly, delighted for you all! Here’s hoping she will be yours/the syndicate’s very soon. In bocca al lupo!

  7. In the ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy’ there is a Lorry Driver who does not realise he is a Rain God even though his windscreen wipers are always on full.
When I was a teen I was at the peak of my powers as Ballydoyle had only 60-65 Horses and I could get angles on them.
I am a Busted Flush and I realised at the age of 21 that I am a God of anti-tipping like that Lorry Driver.
I napped a Horse called Arctician to win the 18.30 at Tipp
    at 4/11 .
I have little argument to say he did a Clint out to 1/2 and people might be in the know as He lost as ever to my God like powers.
As Luke and Samantha are Teens I think I should just reconnect with my Teenage self and accept tips from them from now on.
I know I should try to come to terms with the fact that my God like power to tip losers is possibly open to remedial action.
    Actually I doubt that.
Even the most experienced Psychotherapist can not convince me I am a God of anti-tipping
