Talking Horses Monday August 9th 2021

Familiar names blasted onto the Hitlist yesterday – Dirty Northerner with a stunner of a 12/1 chance for his nap in the shape of Marianafoot in France. The Steelman has rarely been off the Hitlist in the past few weeks and his nap was No More Porter at an advised 11/2 (9/2 SP). Rob J big-priced nap was rewarded with a place: Comfort Line at 11/1 and Robicheaux is back with a successful nap – Cowboy Justice at 2/1. Fine tipping, all – thank you.

If I’ve missed anyone, please give me a shout via the August Winners thread.

The blog’s nap was at the abandoned Haydock, a track which seems to attract biblical rain whatever the season. Today’s nap is Come On Linda at 7/1 in the 8.25 Ripon. No EW perms today. I will wait until the ground settles.

As ever, please leave your naps/tips by making a comment below. All welcome, especially newcomers; just enter a name when asked so we know who is who. No prizes, but it’s good fun here among some seasoned punters, most of whom spent years commenting at the Guardian on the original Talking Horses forum, which has now been heavily cut back.

If you tip a winner, please use the Winners thread to highlight your result and we’ll put you on the Hitlist next day. There is a Winners thread for each month.

We also have a Lounge thread for general chat, though as a forum we are a bit limited to what WordPress, our host here, provides as far as structure goes.

Thanks for looking in. Good luck with your bets today, but please bear in mind that this is meant to be ‘fun’. There are many wise heads posting tips here and we haven’t yet gone a day without somebody tipping a winner. But never bet more than you can afford to lose. Small stakes can still produce wide smiles.

All the best
Joe

  1. The nap tomorrow should be our yearling bay filly, but that’s a long time off. However, in a poor days racing it’s a bank day – TREGONY 10/11 7.35 Windsor.

    1. Great tip. Came cruising by, and then belted the last hurdle in an unnecessary attempt to raise my blood pressure before picking up again and winning easily.

    1. Great news DN and Dilton. Really well done. If you are both together I propose you have a working lunch / dinner and whack it on the TH expenses account as a small token of appreciation for all your efforts (although you will have to go easy on the vin rouge) 🙂

        1. It’ll be tomorrow morning as I’m still on the road and just pulled into a pub to toast our lovely filly’s head. Today was a great day and thanks Dilton.

  5. ASMUND in the 16:05 at Ayr. Twelve runs since last win in 2019 which my losing NAP run is rapidly closing in on. Being sick the last couple of days has saved me money.

  6. Late to the party today. Have ventured over the border and played golf in Bucks today – in the sunshine while there’s thunder and lightening back home.
Love Ripon and every time we’re there we seem to bet an Easterby winner to dig us out. So CARRIGILLIHY in the 6.55 is today’s losing nap.
