Great to see David put up winners for the 4th day in succession with Lion Tiger and Alhett, advised at 9/4 and 1/1. You’re on a great run, David. Good luck today.
Bacciodilupo, successful with the big priced Flaming Rib on Thursday tipped 8/1 winner Presenting Bonnie – advised at 18/1 in the morning. Smashing them home at big prices, Bacciodilupo, long may it continue.
Robicheaux seems hardly to have been off the Hitlist lately and his EW selection at 12/1 King Triton landed the place money in the 5.10. Consistent work, Robicheaux.
The Steelman, another recent Hitlist regular tipped the bonny wee Winter Power who scooted home at 9/1 – advised at 6/1, but most bookies going BOG. Confident selection, Steelman, in what many saw as a two horse race.
Rob J who’s been showing signs of a full return to form landed his nap Lusail at 7/2. I’ll be following you now, Rob.
It was a fine first day for new poster Paul Romain, who put up these:
Nap – 1.50 STATE OF BLISS 17/2 EW 6 places at Sky
Next Best – 3.35 WINTER POWER 6/1 EW 5 places at Skybet
Longshot – 5.10 DEVILWALA 40/1 6 places sKYBET
Each Way Lucky 31 Skybet
1.50 STATE OF BLISS 17/1 6 places (was Winter Reprise 16/1 but just taken out as typing!)
3.00 GIS A SUB 12/1 3 places
3.35 EMRAATY ANA 33/1 5 places
4.40 AUNTY BRIDY 22/1 4 places
5.10 DEVILWALA 40/1 6 places
Those middle three were placed at 50/1, 40/1 and 8/1! And Winter Power, of course, won. I suspect Paul took Skybet prices for the extra places, so won’t get BOG. I very much hope I am wrong. Whatever, that’s fantastic tipping to follow up on Paul’s big payout from Thursday’s place pot.
If I’ve missed anyone, please give me a shout via the August Winners thread.
The blog’s nap was no good and we are going to have to work a bit harder. Still, it’s a speculative nap today at 25/1 EW to 8 places with Skybet. He’s trained only about 30 crow miles from where I live and is better than ever this season … ladies and gents, I offer you the wonderful Euchen Glen, a proven Group horse in a handicap. One of his three Group 3 victories was here at York, and in last year’s Ebor he finished 5th at 25/1. He has a stone more this time but his improvement fully merits it. If he finishes in the first third of the field here he lands the place money, and at his best has a fighting chance of winning.
I’ve backed him single and put him in EW multiples at Skybet extra places along with Dhushan and Marshall Plan (2.25), and Qaader(4.45) plus Stylish Performer (8.00). The last one has form figures on all weather of 21122, and Skybet pay an extra place at 5/1.
As ever, please leave your naps/tips by making a comment below. All welcome, especially newcomers; just enter a name when asked so we know who is who. No prizes, but it’s good fun here among some seasoned punters, most of whom spent years commenting at the Guardian on the original Talking Horses forum, which has now been heavily cut back.
If you tip a winner, please use the Winners thread to highlight your result and we’ll put you on the Hitlist next day. There is a Winners thread for each month.
We also have a Lounge thread for general chat, though as a forum we are a bit limited to what WordPress, our host here, provides as far as structure goes.
Thanks for looking in. Good luck with your bets today, but please bear in mind that this is meant to be ‘fun’. There are many wise heads posting tips here and we haven’t yet gone a day without somebody tipping a winner. But never bet more than you can afford to lose. Small stakes can still produce wide smiles.
All the best
Joe
I’m going to take a punt on the forecast rain getting into the ground. So..

Numerous shorties abound but honour insists (as a Yorkie) that the Ebor be the nap. No idea if it’s good enough but Humanitarian has surely been saved for this by Gosden – you can get 14/1 for 6 places with some firms but if it’s going to win then surely it has to be all in? Having said that, as a coward, I’m going EW. Other York lucky dips are: Real world, Summers Knight, Sir Busker, Attagirl, Aerion Power and Blind Beggar for the excellent Joanna Mason.

The nap and the nb losing their chances midway and at the start respectively yesterday.. here goes nothing….

Very important Classic pointing 2 yo Races at the Curragh today
Last year both Mac Swiney and SMB won here which produced a relatively low Classic yield for this card.
I think I will back the Heffernan mounts as they don’t seem to be any worse than the RM mounts.
The exception is in the Futurity at 18.40 where Point Lonsdale to beat The Entertainer in a straight forecast is my nap.

York is hard this year, however, TASHKAN 14/1 and ILARAAB 14/1, 2.25 and 3.35, were backed last night EW.

Syndicate 2 update .
I’ve been looking at horses that are ready to run now for the upcoming NH season. I’ve found 4 that will suit , the one I really want is a 3 yo gelding that’s in the sales at the end of the month. Hes only had 2 runs on the flat but has shown enough and he will make a cracking hurdler and dual purpose horse as hes built for the job.Hes French bred and has the FR suffix so qualifies for all the premiums there. I’m trying to get the owners to sell him pre sale and I’m meeting them on Monday.
Of the other three , two are on free lease (with option to buy terms ) the third ones owners want more than I think hes worth on what hes shown so far on the flat and I’m checking him over mid week.
DN has done a great job organising the first syndicate which is now closed ,dealing with all the paperwork that’s now required leaving me free to do my part. Hes had significant interest in forming the second one already so if anyone else is interested please let us know .

would love to get involved but probably not feasible from half a world away in locked down Australia. It’s a bit barmy here. They shot some dogs at a rescue home yesterday because of fears of Covid. we are under a lockdown now – it’s the 200th day out of the last 365 – in Melbourne and there is a curfew on between 9pm and 5am. With spring coming I suspect no night racing! And very few foreign raiders, although Johnny Murtagh wants to bring the Ebor winner and ”kick Aussie butt” as he put it..

3 out of 4 of my last naps have come dead last (one virtually pulled up) and the 4th nap a non-runner. Yet all 4 have been well backed, so there’s no shortage of other idiots out there.
My nap today is MIGRATION in the 16:45 at York.
In the 02:00 (I think I’ve got the time right) at Del Mar, former Dundalk winner GOING GLOBAL and daughter of Mehmas ridden by Flavien Prat is worth a look at. I’m sure sorrymess would agree.

Jonathan,
How many runners were in those races where your nap finished last?
My unofficial scoring system for the Booby Prize awards 50 point bonuses for the nap that finishes last and a point for every Horse ahead of it.
So Alpine Star gave me 58 points by finishing last in the Marois in an 8 runner field.
It needs to be a minimum of 5 runners to get the bonus.
Like getting a 7 letter Scrabble word I thought Alpine Star had done enough for me but it seems you have sneaked up on the rail.
Still there is enough time to the finishing post for me to collar the August Booby Prize yet.
