Talking Horses Thursday September 2nd 2021

Rakib advised taking 2/1 about his nap Mother Country which won at 6/1! A few bookies still pay best odds guaranteed (BOG) – Bet365 the best of those as they do so from the evening before – so hopefully you were on with them. Rakib’s next best Quartz du Rheu…advised 13/8, SP 11/8 also won. Very nice work, Rakib.

Mickle’s becoming a regular on this Hitlist and nap Goldenhurst did the business yesterday at 5/2. Well done, Mickle.

Welcome to a new poster and tipster Miss TerriTipster, who tipped a winner on her debut with Sassy Rascal at 5/2. Well done, Terri, and good to see you here.

Finally, David, another Hitlist regular, won with his first nap of September – Blue Sans at 9/4. Good stuff, David.

The blog’s nap was 4th.

If I’ve missed anyone, please give me a shout via the September Winners thread.

The blog’s nap is Red October, 4/1, in the 6.35 Newcastle.

I’m away all day Thursday, so will catch up on everything when I get back.

As ever, please leave your naps/tips by making a comment below. All welcome, especially newcomers; just enter a name when asked so we know who is who. No prizes, but it’s good fun here among some seasoned punters, most of whom spent years commenting at The Guardian on the original Talking Horses forum, which has now been heavily cut back.

If you tip a winner, please use the Winners thread to highlight your result and we’ll put you on the Hitlist next day. There is a Winners Thread for each month.

What This Blog Is For

As mentioned above this long-running Steeplechasing blog was adapted in a hurry when The Guardian announced they were cutting back on their (usually) daily Talking Horses section. Many punters had gathered there over the years to exchange ideas and fancies. Part of the adapting we had to do at the start of this blog was restricting this daily main article to tips/naps, while we found our feet regarding house rules, moderation and stuff like that.

We are now in a position to open this main daily article to all subjects. It can be very enjoyable when something is latched onto by our knowledgeable, quick-witted posters as they indulge in wordplay and jousting. We still want tips of course, from those who want to tip. It’s by no means an obligation.

If you do post a tip/nap, just include it with whatever subject you are discussing, preferably at the foot of your post. So long as you remember to come back after a winner and put the details of that win in the monthly Winners Thread, then we can include you on the Hitlist in the next day’s main article.

General guidance: No swearing, please. We’re not prudes, it’s just that there is wide scope in the swearword lexicon and we do not have moderators (and hope we’ll never need them). Also, please keep discussions on politics and religion to The Lounge section, though brief references to these subjects in the main article are not forbidden.

Thanks for looking in. If you are betting, especially if you follow our tipsters, good luck with your bets, but please bear in mind that this is meant to be ‘fun’. There are many wise heads posting tips here and we haven’t yet gone a day without somebody tipping a winner. But never bet more than you can afford to lose. Small stakes can still produce wide smiles.

All the best
Joe

    1. Alan,
I have no dilemma in adding both those 2 Horses to a coupon that includes Ratib in the 17.45 at Clonmel at 6/1 as his name is one letter from a in-form Tipster. I will find some random Horse somewhere and do a perm 2 from 4 in e.w. doubles.
If one of those two tips gets placed I will probably get my stake back.

        1. I’ll have to return the favour and tip King of Cashel (as Egs may or not have been known when he worked there) in the 6.45 Clonmel, 6/1. That’s the nb. Nap is STOUR for JPOB in the 6 30 Dundalk. 2/1. He had an impressive winner on debut in the same Sun Bloodstock colours a month or two back. Could be a repeat.

  2. Nap today was going to be the aptly named persist at Salisbury 14:00, but I will instead go for intelligensia (nap) in the next race (14:35) at 3/1

  4. Some Dickens above – to paraphrase him slightly, Winning Naps? Can we have some more?

To try to address today we’ll jump on the in form Moffat/jones team in the Sedgefield 3.25 for Aptly Put.

    What Larks indeed

  5. Today’s NAP is SISTER LOLA, 3.00 Dundalk, 9/4 or so…………….(she wasn’t a showgirl and I don’t think she was a character in a Dickens novel………………)

  6. Skybet offering 4 places at Newcastle for the racing League. I’ve not followed the full Team idea etc but a few of the races look to have a good EW angle. Putting some lunch money bets on these for interest tonight.

    18.05 Amir Kabir 17/2 ew
18.35 Paintless Potter 13/2 ew NB
20.05 Strike red 10/3 win NAP
20.35 Kool Moe Dee 13/2 ew

    2. Joe I’m not including any of these in the winners roll up. Was late putting them up and was only really breaking even on the night.
Not sure I’m a big fan of the racing League tbh. The Teams idea doesn’t work for me.
I think The Sunday series is a better idea.
What can be said without doubt is Better prize money definitely is the key to better races and field size.
Therefore better spectacle for us punters and sport lovers.

  7. 3rd day now without a sniff…was a bit hopeful as Sporting Life naps had tipped them both..noted the price drop before the off and had a quick EW on Romantic Time..so still up on the day…knew the result and places would go to outsiders..unfortunately not mine..Bacciodilupo and Elgransenor tips also brightened the day…thanks to both…onwards
