Talking Horses Saturday October 2nd 2021

David is the first on the new Hitlist (see separate thread) with his nap Mr Tickle, advised at 11/10 (SP 8/11).

Blog’s nap was a NR yesterday. Nap today is River Nymph at 5/1 in the 3.50 – Next best is Count D’orsay in the 4.25 at 9/2 – both are BOG with Bet365.

If I’ve missed anyone, please give me a shout via the Winners thread.

As ever, please leave your naps/tips by making a comment below. All welcome, especially newcomers; just enter a name when asked so we know who is who. No prizes, but it’s good fun here among some seasoned punters, most of whom spent years commenting at The Guardian on the original Talking Horses forum, which has now been heavily cut back.

If you tip a winner, please use the Winners thread to highlight your result and we’ll put you on the Hitlist next day. There is a Winners Thread for each month.

What This Blog Is For

As mentioned above this long-running Steeplechasing blog was adapted in a hurry when The Guardian announced they were cutting back on their (usually) daily Talking Horses section. Many punters had gathered there over the years to exchange ideas and fancies. Part of the adapting we had to do at the start of this blog was restricting this daily main article to tips/naps, while we found our feet regarding house rules, moderation and stuff like that.

We are now in a position to open this main daily article to all subjects. It can be very enjoyable when something is latched onto by our knowledgeable, quick-witted posters as they indulge in wordplay and jousting. We still want tips of course, from those who want to tip. It’s by no means an obligation.

If you do post a tip/nap, just include it with whatever subject you are discussing, preferably at the foot of your post. So long as you remember to come back after a winner and put the details of that win in the monthly Winners Thread, then we can include you on the Hitlist in the next day’s main article.

General guidance: No swearing, please. We’re not prudes, it’s just that there is wide scope in the swearword lexicon and we do not have moderators (and hope we’ll never need them). Also, please keep discussions on politics and religion to The Lounge section, though brief references to these subjects in the main article are not forbidden.

Thanks for looking in. If you are betting, especially if you follow our tipsters, good luck with your bets, but please bear in mind that this is meant to be ‘fun’. There are many wise heads posting tips here and we haven’t yet gone a day without somebody tipping a winner. But never bet more than you can afford to lose. Small stakes can still produce wide smiles.

All the best
Joe

  1. The nap is DILAWAR Paris Longchamp 13.33 at 8/1. The nb is SKAZINO, who was almost the nap, 11/1 in the 14.15 Paris Longchamp. Win, EW singles and doubles.

The downside is that for the first time in 8 years I will not be there.

  3. Sad for you. I am here in Gay Paris.
The Saturday Card is always dodgy.
I will test out my Francais on Sunday with the very grumpy PM ladies. I don’t really have anything AP and will decide on the day.

      1. Thanks for that
I have obsessional characteristics when travelling and plan all my meals months in advance but might switch my plan next Saturday.

        1. I must admit I haven’t eaten there for 2 years, but it was very decent. More fine home cooking, then fine dining.

          Have a great time EGS

  4. Cracking cards at ascot and Longchamp.

    Longchamp bets –

    1.33 Real world 7/2 NB

Hoping the lad handles the ground. I think he is a top performer and is well to winning more group races.

    2.15 Princess Zoe 11/4 NAP

I don’t need to go into this one much. This has been the aim for a while. Cracking mare who likes it soft and this trip Is ideal.

Others who I like today for small EWs and multiples-

    2.50 – YesYes 14-1 ew
A chance taken she will want this stamina test. Looks a cracking big filly and I think she would run a place.

    4.00 Third realm 10-1 ew
Very soft ground and drop back to 10F with forward going tactics may see this colt to his best. Would need to revive though as York run was poor.

Ascot looks to be getting some rain. Picked out these for small ews plenty places offered.

    3.15 – Ainsdale 33-1
    3.50 – Tomfre 10-1
    4.25 – Rebel at dawn 10-1

That’s all my bets for today !
    Good luck folks

      1. Thanks Aurorain

Could have been a very impressive day if I’d had a bit more luck.

Princess Zoe and Yesyes I was a bit disappointed with the runs.

Yesyes backed into 5s from 14s and ran no race. Third realm
Ran well for a close 4th.
The key for me is using Skybet for some of these races to get the enhanced place offers. I’m Glad we both won a few quid!

      1. It was an interesting race wasnt it? Never less than about 20l in front and finished 30, with the jockey restraining it for the first 2 mile!. If only all my naps ran like that……

  8. I am with The Steelman in napping Princess Zoe in the 14.15 at Paris Longchamp.
There is possibly a cognitive bias after the destruction job by Search For A Song last weekend but I have always liked being loyal to staying Mares with proven Autumn form.

  9. The going report In France isnt very helpful…. Is it GS or Very soft!
Jockeys seem to say it’s soft and
Holding. Will be seriously heavy tommrow if they get the predicted rain
