Talking Horses Wednesday October 6th 2021

Hitlist: Good to see me nap a winner in Bridge Native: advised 9/2 BOG, SP 5/1 DN remains in fine form with a 5/1 Nap Noble Yeats. You’re on a good run, DN.

If I’ve missed anyone, please give me a shout via the Winners thread.

The blog’s nap today is Pink Eyed Pedro in the 2.05 Ludlow at 11/4 BOG.

As ever, please leave your naps/tips by making a comment below. All welcome, especially newcomers; just enter a name when asked so we know who is who. No prizes, but it’s good fun here among some seasoned punters, most of whom spent years commenting at The Guardian on the original Talking Horses forum, which has now been heavily cut back.

If you tip a winner, please use the Winners thread to highlight your result and we’ll put you on the Hitlist next day. There is a Winners Thread for each month.

What This Blog Is For

As mentioned above this long-running Steeplechasing blog was adapted in a hurry when The Guardian announced they were cutting back on their (usually) daily Talking Horses section. Many punters had gathered there over the years to exchange ideas and fancies. Part of the adapting we had to do at the start of this blog was restricting this daily main article to tips/naps, while we found our feet regarding house rules, moderation and stuff like that.

We are now in a position to open this main daily article to all subjects. It can be very enjoyable when something is latched onto by our knowledgeable, quick-witted posters as they indulge in wordplay and jousting. We still want tips of course, from those who want to tip. It’s by no means an obligation.

If you do post a tip/nap, just include it with whatever subject you are discussing, preferably at the foot of your post. So long as you remember to come back after a winner and put the details of that win in the monthly Winners Thread, then we can include you on the Hitlist in the next day’s main article.

General guidance: No swearing, please. We’re not prudes, it’s just that there is wide scope in the swearword lexicon and we do not have moderators (and hope we’ll never need them). Also, please keep discussions on politics and religion to The Lounge section, though brief references to these subjects in the main article are not forbidden.

Thanks for looking in. If you are betting, especially if you follow our tipsters, good luck with your bets, but please bear in mind that this is meant to be ‘fun’. There are many wise heads posting tips here and we haven’t yet gone a day without somebody tipping a winner. But never bet more than you can afford to lose. Small stakes can still produce wide smiles.

All the best
Joe

  1. Just back from Portugal…..Brghhhhhhh…..Better for me to study form on PC rather than iPad todays EW Nap is Espresso Freddo 15:40 Notts 12/1 4 places

  2. I know who I will not nap in the 16.25 at Ludlow.
Like any slightly normal Parent (very slightly) I don’t believe in vicarious success for a child. Safe and sound is all one can ask.
At least she will be wearing the best colours which have impressed everyone I have showed them to.

If I am to have a bet today it will be in the 15.30 at Navan.
On paper it looks like a Greek thing with Temple of Ardemis v Adonis but I am not so sure.
There is an interesting APOB debutant called Ninja who carries the colours of the Japanese main owner.
He is a half brother to Tiggy Wiggy.
Coolmore also own an unraced 2 yo Son of Tiggy Wiggy called Samuel Pepys who just had his Dewhurst entry deleted.
I liked the idea of of the nephew, Samuel Pepys running against his Uncle Ninja and the Greeks probably have a word for it.
However I am done with backing all these good ground Pedigrees like Uncle Ninja and time is running out.
Herring Island has close relatives that still pull ploughs but my nap is Inchturk at 25/1 in the 15.30 at Navan.

  3. No bets for me today, but come on the nap can only be Aussie moon e/w to knick a place 16:25 Ludlow. Good luck to all those going to support her today (wish I could be there)!

  4. Looking forward to my first afternoon on a racecourse for a couple of years. As EGS said so eloquently above, safe and sound is all that matters.

DN and Hugh Taylor’s suggestions yesterday mean I’m playing with Betfair’s money as well – cheers DN.

The 3 mile Chase at 2.05 LUD looks interesting, even with just five runners. I’ll throw in a rare Nap with Shoal Bay.

    1. I rarely do this, however, it looks a good Placepot card at Ludlow today. SHOAL BAY is a good shout. Skelton’s in the first. Evan Williams has a walkover later on. Then there are one or two others who look well in.

  5. E/w Nap: Dha Leath 10/1, 6 places 4.40 Navan
NB: Obviously not the star on the Ludlow card but El Borracho in the 3.50. 13/8 . Be Lucky.

  6. Have fun at the races and cheer on Aussie moon for all of us !
I hope she enjoys the run and gets home safe and well. Can’t wait to see the silks on the course ! What a way we have come in short time!

A few small bets for interest as I have the day off work!

    Sedgfield –

    4.33 Treasured company 6-1 ew 4P
Chance taken that the cheekpieces work. Not the most straightforward horse but ran to win at 28-1 on first run back after break. Ran out last time against Miltons Horse Sargeant. Race looked decent enough. NAP

5.50 Cooper cross 4-1 win NB
Had some decent form as a hurdler. Pitched into handicap. The trainer had one fall the other day that looked like winning. Worth a chance.

    Nottingham
    5.20 Good Regal 8-1 EW 4P
Consistent filly who may like this step up in trip. My fear is Intercessor with the Claimer on board who won on the horse in July.

    Good luck folks !

  7. As others have said, Have a great day at Ludlow and i’ll be cheering the colours on from here. I took a screenshort earlier of the racing post bit that says Owner “Talking Horses” – other racing sites are available. Look forward to a safe run and hopefully a good report tomorrow.

  9. Good luck to all going to Ludlow today. Very different feeling having an interest in a horse, hope she comes home safe and sound.

Nap (a previous winning nap for me) is SUMMERTIME ROMANCE (around 8/1) in the 14;30 at Nottingham.

      1. Like EGS I’m waiting for 9 consecutive Dragon losers before backing anything with Dragon in his/her name. Assuming Sir Dragonet counts I have 1 loser since a Dragon has won.

        1. I guess that is logical…so long as it doesn’t win now. The Dragon Alert System (DAS) 🚨 🐲🚨seems to work though!

  10. Very best wishes to the syndicate and to all those going to Ludlow today. It will be a special day, enjoy it. I hope Aussie Moon enjoys her first run, it must be quite an experience for her too. As many here have said, safe and sound are the words of the day.

  11. In order to give Aussie Moon the best possible chance I’ll nap every other horse in the 4:25 at Ludlow.

Hope the weather is fine and the beer (or whatever drink of choice) is flowing for those lucky enough to be in attendance.

Best wishes to Aussie and jockey.

  12. Win or lose it’ll be a treat to see those colours flying.

Bet365 is offering very doable enhanced ew prices up to 5 places if anyone’s interested.

A great days racing to the lucky connections in attendance

  13. Unexpectedly I’m going to try an EW Pat with a Sayer and Carr pick as they both only have a runner each out today 13:38 Sedge Dans Cross 14/1 and Don’t Joke 17:20 Notts 10/1…throwing in Huddleston Mac 15:40 Notts 11/1 to make up the patent…On Aussie EW…good luck

  14. Three non-runners in the 4.25, so increased chances of a place… On the not very liquid exchange this morning there was a better price for Aussie Moon getting 4 places than 2 places when I looked!!
Looking forward to it, and thanks again for the major players making this happen, hopefully I’ll meet some of you soon on a racecourse.
Have fun everyone and especially our equine girl xxx
