Talking Horses Friday October 22nd 2021

Rakib remains in strong Hitlist form landing his NB selection Quinta do Mar, advised at 9/4, SP 11/4. You’re on a good run, Rakib.

And Alan once again lands a nice profit with his EW NB Katheefa placing at 33/1. Solid stuff, Alan.

I’m posting this earlier than usual so might be missing some winners. If so, I’ll update.

The blog’s nap was a NR. the Friday nap is Not So Sleepy 3.15 Doncaster at 5/2 BOG.

As ever, please leave your naps/tips by making a comment below. All welcome, especially newcomers; just enter a name when asked so we know who is who. No prizes, but it’s good fun here among some seasoned punters, most of whom spent years commenting at The Guardian on the original Talking Horses forum, which has now been heavily cut back.

If you tip a winner, please use the Winners thread to highlight your result and we’ll put you on the Hitlist next day. There is a Winners Thread for each month.

What This Blog Is For

As mentioned above this long-running Steeplechasing blog was adapted in a hurry when The Guardian announced they were cutting back on their (usually) daily Talking Horses section. Many punters had gathered there over the years to exchange ideas and fancies. Part of the adapting we had to do at the start of this blog was restricting this daily main article to tips/naps, while we found our feet regarding house rules, moderation and stuff like that.

We are now in a position to open this main daily article to all subjects. It can be very enjoyable when something is latched onto by our knowledgeable, quick-witted posters as they indulge in wordplay and jousting. We still want tips of course, from those who want to tip. It’s by no means an obligation.

If you do post a tip/nap, just include it with whatever subject you are discussing, preferably at the foot of your post. So long as you remember to come back after a winner and put the details of that win in the Winners Thread, then we can include you on the Hitlist in the next day’s main article.

General guidance: No swearing, please. We’re not prudes, it’s just that there is wide scope in the swearword lexicon and we do not have moderators (and hope we’ll never need them). Also, please keep discussions on politics and religion to The Lounge section, though brief references to these subjects in the main article are not forbidden.

Thanks for looking in. If you are betting, especially if you follow our tipsters, good luck with your bets, but please bear in mind that this is meant to be ‘fun’. There are many wise heads posting tips here and we haven’t yet gone a day without somebody tipping a winner. But never bet more than you can afford to lose. Small stakes can still produce wide smiles.

All the best

  1. EW Nap Gifted Ruler New’b 16:30 6 plcs…..Why not….work again tomorrow….only 2 days a week but less time to form study….another excuse lined up already

  2. Nap: Art Approval 9/2, Chelt 4.15 (resisting continuing the cricket theme with ‘Captain Morgs’ in that race)
NB: A bit of a flyer : HEBRIDES in the Newbury maiden at 1.38. Only because I was admiring the Iveagh Bequest today and ‘the dam was an unraced sister to Group 3 winner Iveagh Gardens’ apparently. Seems like too much of a coincidence…

    1. Looks like the low draw was a big disadvantage, when it eventually got a run up the rail it kept on for third at least. You’d think a short price next time out. Art Approval more of an ew price now, and maybe Captain Morgs 🏏 will be in better form than his namesake so a few ew doubles with the 🐉 might be called for. Fwiw I think EGS deserves bonus pts in the nap table if his theory is borne out. Sidenote after seeing the latest ONS figures: I think the odds on another incredibly avoidable national winter lockdown decrease by the day. Hope that doesn’t sound too political but stay safe , everyone!

  3. Favourite moon – don 3.15 is the nap and i’ll add a nb of One night in Milan in the Newcastle 5.30 which won as nap earlier in month and can hopefully go in again. I wont nap it again as consecutive napping doesnt seem to work…Horses don’t follow up as often as you’d like.

  4. Its not aftertimming as its been pointed out many times but Milton had another cracking winner yesterday at 11 to 1 or so. Betting his horses blind is a fair approach at minute as they are landing at good prices and he’s not got 6 a day out or anything. One today at Newb 5.30 which isnt a nap or anything but a reminder that the fine stable form continues.

      1. The hot streak has been a great thing for MH hasn’t it. In honesty before Aussie Moon he’d passed me by but all races he’s involved in now are accompanied with plaudits from the pundits about the amazing form. Can only be good for business

  5. Th maiden hurdle at Cheltenham (5.25) features the reappearance of GO DANTE, believed by Olly Murphy to be the yard’s best novice hurdler this season. He was certainly “expected” back in March when backed in to even money and sluiced in at Wincanton. ATR obviously don’t know much about him because their odds setter put him in at 15/2 in the tissue last night – now he is 6/4 backed from 7/4, which is more where he should be. Not much of a price, but Murphy and the owner Mrs Hester will be pretty glum if Go Dante gets beat today. Another horse interests me in this race as well – Adjournment of Oliver Greenall’s. He is really one to wait for as a chaser being by Court Cave, and was one of the better English pointers to move into NH training this year. His PTP debut saw him run second to quite a nice horse of Sophie Lacey’s who is now in training with husband Tom. Then he turned out in a better race and was a good second conceding 10lbs to a 4yo, keeping on well after making much of the running. Adjournment is one to watch for the longer term – it will be interesting how Greenall races him with a future handicap mark in mind.

  6. Well after yesterday’s appalling day’s tipping (oh, that purple patch in June/July seems so long ago now!!), I shall try my look with Oh Herbert’s reign (Donny, 13:00).

  7. Pondered over napping Air Raid last night and the price has come in a little….just a bit of association when i napped Flight Deck 5/1 14:40 Donny is the Nap….will also be trying an EW on Maxine 16:25 Don 14/1 4 plcs

  8. Apologies and sorry for any confusion over my 2 Naps today. Gifted Ruler which I tipped last night was meant to be my NB EW ….forgiveness???
