Onto Saturday and some interesting cards. I saw that on Friday’s UK race cards, the best prize money on offer was £7,922 in a novice chase. Nobody gets into the owners’ side confident they will get rich, but it’s a sorry state of affairs, making the sport here look impoverished while betting turnover on the sport is billions each year.
Saturday’s highest prize money is just over £41,000 for the Grand Sefton.
Starting November 1st 2021, Betfair have kindly agreed to provide two tickets each month to the winner of the naps table for one of their sponsored racedays.

Please post your nap each day using the comments section below this thread. All welcome. You need not post every day and can join in at any point in the month, as one big priced winner could win you the prize, which is settled on the tipster showing the biggest profit at the end the month. But, bear in mind that on days your name does not appear on the Daily Naps Results winners list, you’ll be assumed to have picked a loser.
For example, if at the end of the month your name is on the list once with a 25/1 winner, you will have your £250 profit from that nap deducted from assumed losing stakes for each other day. Assuming a 30-day month, your total stakes would be viewed as £300, returns as £260, for a loss of £40. I hope this makes sense. If you can think of a better way or a way to express this more clearly, please leave a comment below.
You need post only the horse’s name, but feel free to elaborate on your reasons for picking it.
If your selection secures a return – EW naps are allowed – please post the result in the Winners Thread stating it was your nap and mentioning the SP.
Profit will be calculated to a £10 stake on each selection. EW selections will be staked at £5EW.
All naps will be settled at SP, so please do not include an early price. This will help maintain clarity and reduce the chances of disputes. We will use standard place rules a la Tattersalls to settle EW naps. Otherwise I need to start checking place offers, non runners affecting it, etc. Doubtless some will suffer because of this, but I think it will even out in the end.

Finally, there are some hardened and skilled tipsters here and each has their good and bad runs. When one starts a good run, it can seem to the less experienced that all prayers have been answered, and a holy grail of winners has been found. But please never make that assumption. It’s not the way things work in betting, for anyone. Sharks flogging baited tips would have you believe that this holy grail does exist. Well, there is a collective punting experience on this site numbering, I’d say, close to 500 years. Not a single tipster here will tell you that reliable profits can be made from betting racehorses.
So, this is not a mild and dutiful problem betting disclaimer. I’ve been in the business since 1971 and have seen any amount of God’s misery caused by betting beyond means. Punting is a brilliant pastime, but a horrible compulsion, a fantastic servant, but a dreadful master. Never bet more than you can afford to lose with a smile … and there’s plenty of big smiles in small stakes.

My nap is Irish Prophecy in the 3.00 Wincanton, a race usually dominated by Nicholls. But this fella has won twice here, most convincingly last time, though he’s been raised 7lbs for that. But he goes on fast ground too and that’s what they are likely to get, bar unexpected rain.
Another that caught my eye was Aquila Sky at around 8/1 in the 1.08 Aintree where Harry Skelton takes his first ride for trainer Sam Allwood. Skelton’s far from my favourite jockey, but he could make a difference here. This is the best horse Allwood has – albeit there aren’t many anyway, and I’m a sucker for an underdog! This would b the biggest success in his 7-year training career.

I love an early post at 19.45 on a Friday evening by Joe because I like it all to be sort of sorted for the weekend.
I will not change my mind my much over the weekend and Irish Prophecy went on my Betslip.at 19.46.
I do have to consider other Revenue Streams.
I went to see the Jack Yeats Exhibition in the National Art Gallery of Ireland recently and anyone who likes Horse Racing, will be aware of the full force.
Jack Yeats was never knighted as he shared all that Gaelic Revival Republican stuff with his WB Brother.
Calling a Horse Sir Jack Yeats is like calling a Horse Sir Wat Tyler, Sir Oliver Cromwell or Lord Wedgwood Benn.
The family Estate must have some rights and should sue.
The irony is there is another Horse by Yeats called the West’s Awake in that Race which is Gaelic Revival all over.
I am going to to include Sir Jack Yeats in a combi bet which will include everything Ballydoyle is throwing at Del Mar as I no longer know how to do different.
Slowhandray had a thing about Broome in a very negative sense.
This is a meeting where negativity works and at e.w 18/1 he is my nap in the Breeders Cups Turf at 23.40.

A bizarre Race in the 00.30. Never seen this sort of thing in my life.
Grafton Street getting placed means I did incredibly well on e.w. doubles but that race was utter chaos. A child could organise something better in my back garden.

The Breeders’ Cup Turf could be almost as chaotic as the Juvenile Turf- according to the Racing Post, Ryan Moore is riding Bolshoi Ballet AND Japan. Now that would be a feat… (surprised they haven’t corrected it as it’s been there for a while, unless he has become a circus act).

2 of the 4 Ballydoyle Horses are reserves so we won’t know how many get to the stalls ’till the last minute. I don’t like waiting to bet just before the off and there must be another Jockey on standby.

Shame I didn’t go for Wynn House or Farhan, that put me in profit today, but the real smile on my face was Sceau Royal (and on Daryl Jacob’s face) – I was amazed when I saw him in the flesh a while back, how slender and slight he is, but what a heart! Lovely.

My last 3 naps have been very consistent – each was 2nd. tsk. Todays attempt to go one better is Your Darling in the Aintree 1.40 which probably nails it on for the silver medal. There will be other bets on a good days sport. Luck to All

I’m going to watch Genois in the 15:40 at Naas with some interest. He’s in my tracker, goodness knows why, someone else’s tip probably, and could well be a decent chaser in the making. Bit of money come in for him already, though there’s a firm favourite at the top of the market.

So easy today, giving a nap hardly seems fair on those bookmaker chaps so I am going for the easiest race of the day and napping Prince Alex in the November handicap. HMS President for the forecast as it goes!!

Real real nap: LOVE, 8.59 GMT (about 3/1) in the Filly and Mares race. The Tabor silks and Moore are in good form judging by Astronomer winning at an almost astronomical price yesterday. I could continue the space theme with Space Blues in the Mile race but there’s a few too many question marks to answer at his price and I’d rather do Mother Earth to place in that.
NB: TARNAWA 11/8 in the Turf at 11.40 pm GMT. As Modern Games showed (after all the shenanigans) yesterday if you’re a clear cut above the rest then you can haul the frontrunners in at Del Mar – I think Tarnawa is. Winning would put a fitting seal on Colin Keane’s season and Tarnawa’s stellar career.
